This spring we finally embarked on our journey with chickens. It has been a tender, sweet, and life changing experience.
Having chickens has been the desire of my heart for many years. It was something I couldn't explain, I just new that I had to have them. When we lived in Colorado our HOA didn't allow them. I may have stayed in that house forever, but I knew I needed my chickens - seriously! Overtime, being closer to family and a desire for land became more and more important to use, and led us to the Midwest.
We finally have our chickens (as of Spring '21) and I am so grateful to the Lord for giving us the opportunity.
Everyday is a new adventure with our feathered friends, and we are continually gaining new wisdom and insight that I will share here.
Perhaps we will even inspire you to start your own flock.
At the very least, my hope is to highlight one of my favorite creations from my beautiful Creator.
Meet the girls..
We have an sweet little flock of chickens that we purchased this spring. Each has its own unique personality, beauty and charm. They are named after our favorite characters from books and movies. Caroline, Hester Sue and Laura are from our beloved Little House books and TV series. Our Rhode Island Red Anne had to be named after our favorite red head from Anne of Green Gables. And last but not least we have Winn Dixie's Opal and the Sound of Music's Maria.
We are not yet in the egg laying stage, that will happen sometime this fall. For now we simply get to love on them and get to know them.
