The Lord Will Provide

October 16, 2021 – Saturday

Our journey into the prairie continued last week as we participated in a prairie immersion class at the 850 acre Spring Creek Prairie Audubon Center.  The class is offered annually to 4th graders in the public school system, and per my request, they generously opened it to our homeschool group.  The only problem… I don’t really have a homeschool group yet as we are still new to town.  Oops.  I was unsure if I could meet the minimum of ten students required for the event.  We did just join Wild and Free… but this event didn’t work with their schedule.  I was trusting the Lord to provide friends to join us on this adventure.  The truth is… this field trip is for me, and I am simply letting my children tag along.  They know it is true and oblige my passion.

We miraculously had eleven children attend!  God is so good!  I feel especially blessed because one of the families that attended, I met through a friend, and they are just lovely.  We were first introduced to their ten year old Lydia.  I said… “Oh… Lydia like the Penderwicks!”  You just know when you meet a kindred spirit!   Books not only reveal commonalities among us, but define us.  Good books become our friends, and can also reveal our friends to us.  We look forward to spending more time with this family.

It was a beautiful October day.  The combination of the warm October sun with the cool autumn breeze is one of my favorites.  The children explored, caught bugs, drew postcards and colored them with plants, examined leaves with magnifiers, and rolled down grassy hills.  It is fun to think that no matter what century we live in… the adventures to be found on a grassy hill are timeless.
